Ms. Jean Laswell is the Director for Career Institute North, a new Dallas Independent School District Career Technical Education (CTE) center under development. Ms. Laswell earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Texas A&M Commerce, followed by a Master of Arts in Career and Technical Education from Ball State University. Prior to entering the education field, Ms. Laswell had a career in marketing research, owning a marketing research consulting firm serving Fortune 500 companies. In 2007, Ms. Laswell chose to leave the business arena to pursue a teaching career, fulfilling her goal of helping students discover their career interests. She joined the staff of Rockwall ISD, where she taught courses in business, marketing, finance, engineering, robotics and computer science. She was named Rockwall-Heath High School Teacher-of-the-Year in 2011, served as district CTE Coordinator for nine years, and led the programmatic development of the Dr. Gene Burton College and Career Academy, where she served as Assistant Principal until March of 2019 when she joined the Dallas ISD CTE program to help design and develop the new Career Institutes. Mrs. Laswell is excited to be part of a premier urban school district initiative that will develop leaders and build futures for our next generation.
