Mary Comer is a K-5 Instructional Technology Coach (ITC) in Westwood, MA. After teaching in the classroom in the Greater Boston community for many years, she received her Masters in Instructional Technology from Lesley University. Mary provides professional development and coaching for staff in an effort to encourage purposeful technology integration across the curriculum. In addition to supporting teachers, Mary’s role also includes working directly with students, whether it be supporting the work of the classroom teacher or engaging kids in a number of enrichment activities. In particular, Mary’s work introducing coding concepts into the classroom has led her to initiate a formal grade three coding curriculum across all elementary schools. She believes coding innately provides exploration-based, hands-on integration activities and the development of learning dispositions such as creativity, troubleshooting and persistence. Coding students inherently learn the value of taking risks, develop problem-solving skills and increase resiliency when faced with challenges.
